Chess Problem Solving Day at Ackworth

On Sunday 19th November 2017 the White Rose Junior Chess Academy held an excellent chess day at Ackworth School near Pontefract.  The event was opened by Julian Clissold from the English Chess Federation.  He explained the advantages of Junior membership of the ECF.

 

Then Brian Stephenson from the British Chess Problem Society gave a talk on chess problems.  He had set various problems to be solved and was assisted by Phill Beckett an ECF-accredited coach.

 

Noel Stewart and Peter Cloudsdale, both ECF-accredited coaches from York, helped give tuition to parents and children on a demonstration board.

 

In the afternoon, rapidplay chess was organised in 2 sections, Major and Minor, on a 4-round Swiss system.  Results as follows:
