Petrol Allowance for County Matches

For a given match, the captain should appoint Designated Drivers who are eligible for reimbursement from the YCA according to the current Petrol Allowance.

The Petrol Allowance may be claimed by Designated Drivers who take three or more players in the car (including the driver).  Also, after a number of cars have been so filled with three or more, if there then remain less than three players for a final car, then its driver can be a Designated Driver and eligible to claim the Petrol Allowance.

The normal maximum number of permissible Designated Drivers in a given match is four for a 12-player team and five for a 16-player team.

Sometimes it happens that there are only one or two players needed to travel from a location relatively remote from the other departure points.  In such cases, at the captainís discretion, the driver may count as a Designated Driver eligible to claim the Petrol Allowance, if that would not lead to the normal maximum being exceeded by more than one.  If it would exceed the maximum by more than one then permission should be sought from the Treasurer, otherwise payment might be refused.

Players can, of course, elect to travel independently and not be eligible to claim expenses.

Warning re ECF Fines and Rules for Final Stages (not the prior Union Stage)

(see http://www.englishchess.org.uk/competitions-plp/county-championships-2/)

All players must be Bronze ECF Members (or Gold for more than one game in the Open), otherwise fines are incurred (currently the cost of Bronze Membership, or upgrade to Gold).  Defaulted boards and matches potentially incur fines (currently £20 per board, £100 per match).

Results must be entered on line within 48 hours by both captains, and currently a £10 fine results if it is not so entered.
