1922: Kostich Simultaneous Display in Rotherham

On 27/01/1922, at Rotherham Parish Church Hall, a simultaneous display was given in Rotherham by the Serbian chess master, Boris Kostich, over 29 boards (or 30, depending on your source). His opponents came from Rotherham, Sheffield, Doncaster and Eckington.

Kostich won 26 games and drew three, the draws being with William James Day, Reginald Dewar and Stephen Percy Ludbrook. A list of thirty players opposing Kostich, as given by the Sheffield Daily Telegraph of 28/01/1922, contained the following names:

It may be that this list included the names of all players who were due to participate, but didn’t one didn’t turn up. The Rotherham and District Annual, 1923, reported the result of 26 wins, 3 draws, and no losses, i.e. of only 29 games.
