4NCL On-Line League Round 10
The
final group round, round 10, of the 4NCL on-line league has now been
completed.
Results
of Yorkshire teams in round 10, played on Tuesday 09/06/2020, were as follows.
First-named team in a match had White on board 1, with colours alternating
down the boards.
Hull
Romans, who had won 9 matches out of 9, stumbled at the last fence and only
drew their last match.
Quite
where round 10 results leave teams in the final divisional placings will
doubtless be revealed in due course on the 4NCL website (http://www.4ncl.co.uk/index.htm).
However, it would appear Chessable White Rose 1 have won Division 1
Group C with 19 match points. Meanwhile, Hull Romans would
appear to have won Division 3 Group A. Chessable White Rose 2
seem to have come first in Division 2 Group B. Chessmates seem
to have finished first (on tie break) in Division 4 Group A. In
division 5, Darnall & Handsworth (or Sheffield) and Sheffield Deaf
finished 26th and 35th (out of 56 teams) respectively.
That
said, revisiting the format regulations suggests there are now to be inter-group
play-offs to determine the champion within each Division. Regulation
7.1, as published on the website, says, “There will be playoffs based on the
end of season team placings (i.e. the teams that finish 1st and 2nd in their
division)”, which suggests the purpose is to find an inter-divisional winner
of the whole competition. However, that regulation probably really
means “involving each team that finishes 1st or 2nd in its group”.
There is much scope for improving the wording of the rules (e. g. replacing
“compromise” with “comprise” in regulation 4, etc).
