Four Nations Chess League Final Rounds (9 to 11) (Click here for league tables at foot of page)
The fifth weekend of the Four Nations Chess League (4NCL) took place over the long Bank Holiday weekend of 5th & 7th May 2018. For the first 8 rounds, 2 sections of Division 1 played an all-play-all, then in the final three rounds, the highest placed 4 from Division 1a placed against the top 4 from Division 1b in “Division 1c”. Meanwhile the bottom 4 from each of 1a and 1b met in “Division 1d”. Teams from Divisions 2a and 2b played off similarly in “Division 2c” and “Division 2d”. Division 3N simply played its 9th to 11th rounds.
The Yorkshire-based teams participating are White Rose 1, White Rose 2, Jorvik, and Bradford DCA Knights A, B and C. Results in these teams’ matches are given below. (Left-hand team had White on odd numbered boards.) There are also Leeds University Old Boys in Division 3A, and the Slovakia-based Castleford Roses whose captain lives in Castleford in Division 3N.
White Rose 1 finished in second-third position on match points in Division 1 top final section, equal with Cheddleton 1 on 10 match points, behind Guildford 1 on 14 match points. However, White Rose’s 29˝ game points put them in 3rd place, after Cheddleton 1 who had 36 game points.
White Rose 2 finished 7th out of 8 in Division 2d, effectively finishing 15th out of 16 in Division 2 overall.
In Division 3N, Bradford & DCA A finished 2nd on 16 match points, behind Irish team Gonzaga on 21, Bradford & DCA B finished 10th (out of 20) on 11, Jorvik finished 11th on 11 (˝ a game point behind Bradford B), Bradford & DCA C finished 12th on 9. Castleford Roses missed playing in rounds 9 to 11, ending 19th out of 20 on 4 match points.
