|
This match was played at Whitby on Wednesday 21st February 1894, over 12 boards, 2 games being played at each board. The Leeds Mercury Weekly Supplement, Saturday 24th February 1894, reported on the game as follows:
The method adopted by the Leeds Mercury for recording such results, lacks clarity as to whether a win each or two draws occurred on certain boards.
The match features father-and-son pair Francis Wallis and Edward Wallis playing in the same match.
It rather looks as though Whitby was drafting in players from them Grosmont team in the form of W. Bird and G. Schofield (see Grosmont v Whitby, 1890) to meet their larger neighbour Scarborough.
For the return match see 1894 Scarborough v Whitby.
