The method adopted by the Leeds Mercury for recording such results, lacks clarity as to whether a win each or two draws occurred on certain boards.

The match features father-and-son pair Francis Wallis and Edward Wallis playing in the same match.

It rather looks as though Whitby was drafting in players from them Grosmont team in the form of W. Bird and G. Schofield (see Grosmont v Whitby, 1890) to meet their larger neighbour Scarborough.
