Peter Edwards Peter Graham Edwards was born in February 1953 and passed away on 12th of March 2026, aged 73.   His funeral service took place at Seven Hills Crematorium, Nacton (a village near Ipswich), IP10 0FG, on Friday 17th of April 2026.  The notice of the funeral service specified family flowers only but invited donations to Amnesty International. In an e-mail to Steve Mann, Ralph Bailey said the following. “Peter Edwards died of a sudden heart attack in March, while out cycling.  He had had heart surgery a few years ago but seemed now to be in good health. “His brother-in-law Nik contacted Steve Lorber, and we passed on the message to Steve Mallaband and Andrew Spencer.  I couldn’t initially find an email address for you, but my nephew Paul Bailey, whom I think you know through Sheffield chess organization, provided the means to find out. “Steves L and M, and I attended Peter’s cremation ceremony last Friday, in Ipswich, as the attached [below] attests.  Peter, who retired as a civic accountant many years ago, never married or had children, but belonged to a large and loving family, and had many interests.  He provided (and continues to provide, as far as I know) accommodation to a Ukrainian family, refugees from Putin.” Peter had resided at 8 St Edmunds Road, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP1 3QZ and had worked for Suffolk County Council.  One Suffolk CC work colleague has recorded he recalls their lunchtime German lessons and their climbing Helvelyn together.  Peter was a member of Ipswich Choral Society and of Ipswich Institute.  From 10th of March 1995 to 1st of October 1998 he was a director of a London-based real estate management business called Glowrace Ltd, that perhaps being after retirement from Suffolk County Council. In the photograph, Steve Lorber (left) and Ralph Bailey (right) are easily identifiable, having hardly changed over the years except for the greying of hair.  As regards Steve Mallaband (centre), I’ve seen recent photographs on the internet and so can recognise him.  Those who knew him but hadn’t seen recent photographs will need to imagine some hair!  [^ back to top of page]
