25/04/2026 Introduction In 1964, four chess-players entered their first year at King Edward VII Grammar School for Boys, Newbould Land, Sheffield S10 2PO, generally referred to internally as “KES”.  These four where followed in 1965 by two more.  There had been older chess-players at KES, but after the last of the old guard had left in 1968, the six newcomers mentioned became a formidable and energetic school chess team which is looked back on with happy memories. What precipitated the creation of this website was the death of one of the six, Peter Edwards, on 12th of March 2026.  Of the remaining five, three were able to attend Peter’s funeral.  That could have been the end of it, but as Peter had one way or another drawn the remaining five together again, it seemed fitting to set up this website and dedicate it to Peter’s memory.  The rest of us will, of course, be following Peter in due course.  So, Peter, start setting up some chess boards in readiness! To the left of this text are links to pages covering different topics.  Much will inevitably be biased toward the present writer’s memory of things.  However, others are invited to offer their own contributions should they wish. The content draws on pooled fading memories, the Old Edwardians website of yesteryear, old publications of the Yorkshire Chess Association and (ongoing) research in other sources.
