05/04/2020 “Thing of the Day”
To fill space during the suspension of over-the-board chess, it is planned, subject time and enthusiasm, to publish a daily(-ish) article on some relatively random, but to some extent Yorkshire-related chess topic. These with tend to consists mainly of games, positions from games, and less probably composed problems. There will sometimes be links to related biographical material. (Some of the items included will reside on the Yorkshire Chess History website.)
The latest “Thing of the Day” is to be accessible from the red link near top-middle of the Home page, with a link to an index further up.
The series kicks off with a game (win over Lasker), and a game finish (in the Hong Kong Championship) by Victor Brentnall Russ, who appears to have started his career in organised chess in Sheffield in the late 1890s, which is the tenuous “Yorkshire” connection.
