Corrections to ECF January GradingList

A February correction of the January 2020 ECF grading list (games played to 31/12/2019) has been published.  Various things had gone wrong, it seems.

Some results did not get included despite having been submitted.  In particular, Harrogate internal events did not get included at first.  The January grades of 15 Harrogate players have now been changed.  No other Yorkshire results appear to have been missed out.

Apparently some data from the previous period was originally incorrectly included.  In particular, within Yorkshire, it appears some old Sheffield & District data may have been so treated.  For that reason, or some other reason, 54 Sheffield & District players have had their January grades changed.  Sheffield is not processed by the YCA grader, making it difficult to comment further.

Another 10 assorted Yorkshire players have had their January grades changed, making a total of 79 players.  Changes are for the most part by only 1 or 2 points, which is arguably within the range of inherent imprecision of the calculation, meaning the “corrected” grades are simply “differently approximate”.

Further to this, 20 Yorkshire players included in the original January list are not represented in the revised January list.  19 had “E” or “F” grades and the other had a “D” grade, which implies a low number of games, so presumably those players’ original inclusion was based on erroneously included old data, the exclusion of which resulted in those players disappearing from the list when corrected.

The Grading list extract published on this site has been amended to reflect the above corrections, with changed grades, which are mainly standard rate grades, being marked with an asterisk before the grade.
