Chess in Schools and Communities

New for Covonavirus epidemic:

Increased development for chess learning and playing on line: see 2020-04-28CSCChessKid.htm

Chess in Schools and Communities (CSC) is a UK charity which aims to improve children’s educational outcomes and social development by introducing them to the game of chess.  CSC also runs a growing network of chess clubs in libraries.

CSC delivers chess to schools either

a) via curriculum-time lessons and/or

b) through the traditional extra‑curricular chess club.

Children are taught by one of CSC’s trained tutors, who all have Enhanced DBS clearance, progressing over 30 weeks from the rules of the game to foundational tactics and strategy.

Schools receive

a) chess sets,

b) teaching and learning resources, and

c) entry to school activity days at the London Chess Classic.

Staff are offered free places on tutor training courses, enabling them to lead the lessons, and use the CSC curriculum.

The above is a slight adaption of text taken from the following webpage (as at 15/01/2020):
