08/10/2018 update on earlier notice

Mike Denison has now received his 2018 ECF Presidentís Awards for Services to Chess

Mike Denison received his ECF Presidentís Award for Services to Chess on Thursday 4th October, and plans to show it off at Wakefield GHS Junior School, where he does three chess clubs a week, being now in his 26th year of such activity!

Congratulations Mike!

Mike, of Wakefield, was one of the four people recommended by the ECF Awards Committee to receive a 2018 ECF Presidentís Award for Services to Chess.  Mike has been prominent in Yorkshire chess as a player for as long as anyone can remember, just about, but it is primarily for his work over the years as a coach to junior players, most notably at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Wakefield (aka QEGS) that his services have been recognised.  Denis Michael Denison, to give him his full name, has now passed his 81st birthday.

Details of all the findings of the ECF Awards Committee (chaired by Paul Bielby of Sunderland) can be found at https://www.englishchess.org.uk/awards-committee-report/.
