Ihor Lewyk Receives Hardcastle Trophy

The YCA AGM did not take place as usual, in June, but the committee had already decided on Ihor Lewyk as the somewhat belated recipient of the Hardcastle Shield (presented for administrational service to Yorkshire chess), which was recently received from the previous holder, David Baren, by Peter Cloudsdale.  So, in what might be thought of as the shortest ever YCA AGM, with one item on the agenda, “Presentation of Trophies” – well, one of them, Ihor had the Shield presented to him by Peter in front of a rather nice-looking large brick wall,

Ihor reports:

Peter kindly met me to present the Hardcastle trophy.  Due to social distancing we didn't shake hands.

I'm very flattered to have been thought of to receive this award for my services to Yorkshire chess.

When looking back at my career I've served nearly 30 years on the YCA committee including roles such as President, Secretary, ECF delegate, Northern Counties union delegate, website and bulletin editor.  I enjoyed my time on there and will try to get back to chess organising once my workload allows.

Thank you again for thinking of me. It made my day.
