12/01/2020 Chess in York Library, Sunday 12/01/2020
On 12th January 2020 York Chess Club held a chess session, aimed at junior aged 8 to 16, at the York Explore Library in the city centre.
I am pleased to report that 27 children attended, and an enjoyable time was had by all.
Nina Hitzeroth travelled from Wakefield and Liezl explained about the girls’ event in Wakefield on 7th March.
We started by showing a game Bronstein v Garcia, a Dutch Defence, where White opens the h-file and has two powerful bishops. Then some other games were shown on the display board. (Click here to play through this game on screen.)
There was a mixture of training and games. Some parents asked to learn, and also younger siblings.
Thanks to helpers, Noel Stewart, Dan Staples, Ben Rich and Adam Ismail.
Hopefully, the club will run sessions each Sunday during school terms.
