The anticipated e-mail from the British Chess Education Trust, addressed to the Unions and others, inviting nominations of schools to receive 2025 BCET School Awards, was sent out on 26/01/2025. As discussed at Council meetings, a nomination and citation for Stockport GS from Cheshire has now been submitted to BCET.

Since the closing date for entries is not until 31st of May, we will presumably have to wait until June to find out if the nomination has been successful.

NCCU Nominee for Participation in the 2025 British Championships

The qualification regulations for the 2025 British Championships have now been published. It seems quite possible that the age-old right of Unions to nominate a participant might be withdrawn at some time, but the right remains as Section D of the 2025 regulations (see https://www.britishchesschampionships.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Qualification-Regulations-2025-v2.pdf.)

Following on from Mike Surtees winning the NCCU Championship at Cheadle, he has expressed a wish to take up the related NCCU nomination, and so his name and ECF Rating Number have been sent to the Manager of the British Championships as the NCCU’s nominee for participation in the 2025 British Championships.
