As Chesterfield plays in the Sheffield league, a number of the Derbyshire team are familiar players in the Sheffield league. The good news this time is that Yorkshire won convincingly, 10½-5½, and so progress to the final.

In the Under-1650, Lancashire met Kent at Ullesthorpe Village Memorial Hall, Main Street, Ullesthorpe, Nr Lutterworth, Leicestershire, LE17 5DG. This was the closest match of the day for Northern teams. Lancashire bowed out, losing 5-7.

In the Under-1850, Merseyside met Norfolk in Room WT0.0, at Westwood Teaching Centre, Westwood Campus, KIrby Corner Road, Coventry CV4 8EJ. Phil Ramsey recorded the first result in this match, winning on board 9. Results then were evidently slow in coming, but a win for Norfolk and another for Merseyside on boards 12 and14 respectively made the score 2-1 at 4.15 pm. Another win a-piece on boards 1 and 4 made it 3-2. Things looked like they’d be close. Merseyside’s lead increased to 4½-2½ then slipped to 4½-3½, then recovered to 5½-3½, a lead sustained when it edged to 6-4, then 7-5, then 7½-5½. then 8-6, and then a winning 9-6 and a final score of 9½-6½ in favour of Merseyside who so progress to the final.

Also in the Under-1850, Yorkshire met Suffolk at Peterborough Bridge Club, Unit 1, New England Complex, York Road, Peterborough PE1 3BP. Amandeep Singh recorded the first result in this match, winning on board 15. Then David Stephenson recorded a win on board 9. Robin Browne then drew on board 15, as did Peter Catt a while later on board 12, pushing the score to 3-1 in Yorkshire’s favour. A further draw from Zach Tomlinson on board 3 and a win from Jacob Smith on board 7 made the score 4½-1½. A draw on board 5 from James Annan then made it 5-2. Draws on boards 1, 8 and 13 from Adamjeet Singh, Peter Mason and Randolph Donahue respectively made it 6½-3½. A draw from Geoff Brown on board 11 pushed the score to 7-4. Yorkshire needed a further win or two draws to win. Suffolk retained a spark of light at the end of the tunnel when Granville Boot lost on board 6 making it 7-5. A win from Ben Wood on board 4 for made it 8-5. About a quarter of an hour later, Jay Ryalls on board 10 drew to push the score to a winning 8½-5½. A win from Vidhyuth Kavin Sudagar on board 2 and a loss from Steve Crowe on board 16 left the final score as 9½-6½ in favour of Yorkshire who so progress to the final.
