The disparity in strength is
evident from the fact that roughly half the Staffordshire team could play
in the Under-1650 section.
Staffordshire captain Peter
Evans put the following message on the LMS result page: “Thanks to
Yorkshire for a good venue and some games that Staffs made Yorkshire fight
to win. Good luck in the next round and praise to Jonathan for the
Chess Centre.”
Yorkshire is now due to play
Hampshire on the weekend of May 11th and Hampshire have been in touch
suggesting a Bedfordshire-based venue.
Yorkshire captain Rupert Jones
has provided the following photographs.

Nearer row, left to right, boards 9 to 12; further row
left to right, boards 13 to 16.

Boards 1 (back)
and 3 (front)
Rupert, who is of course a cricket fan, says,
“Note young Alex Burke in blue Yorkshire cricket top on
board 1.”

Boards 2 (back)
and 3 (front)
As may be guessed from the cables emerging from the
chessboards
eight (at least) of the boards were connected to
digital display screens for spectators to watch.

though cabling
arrangements leave room for improvement, perhaps,

and there were
refreshments available.
