For the season 1889-90, neither Wakefield nor Hull re-entered after missing 1888-89, and to make things worse Halifax declined to re-enter, leaving only Bradford, Leeds and the Sheffield and District CA to contest the Woodhouse Cup.

The fixture list for the season 1889-90 was as follows (first-named in each pairing being the home team):

Round

Date

1

11/01/1890

Bradford v Sheffield

2

01/02/1890

Leeds v Bradford *

3

15/02/1889

Sheffield v Leeds

* This match was in fact played at Bradford, whose club thus had two home matches.

Final results are summarised in the following table.

* Scoring was 1 match point for a win, and half a match point for a draw.

It is evident that the third match, that between Leeds and Sheffield, was not played, the competition winners having by then already been determined.  In the Leeds Mercury Weekly Supplement of 09/02/1890 James White wrote, “We had some time ago received hints that the Leeds players were not entering heartily into the contest,-but we forbear naming the reason alleged.”

Various local papers covered these matches.  The details below are mostly from the Leeds Mercury Weekly Supplement.  Some adjudication results have not yet been unearthed, but the final score from the Leeds v Bradford match was recorded by hand in the on the WYCA Minute Book, which otherwise lacked results of either match.  Some obvious typographical errors have been corrected for the purposes of the following match details:
