Played at Sheffield Athenaeum Club, on Saturday, 18/11/1893, over 9 boards, 1 game per board.
The Sheffield Daily Telegraph of 20/11/1893 reported the results as follows
The newspaper report had “Epworth” on bottom board for Sheffield, but the initials “A. S.” make the player’s true identity clear.
“Mr. H. Browne, on behalf of the Nottingham players, thanked the Athenaeum for their hospitality, and invited them to play a return match at some future date. Mr. T. C. Chapman replied.”
