York Explore Chess Club

Various instances of chess clubs unconnected formally with any wider chess organisation pop up from time to time: casual chess in Rotherham and Doncaster libraries, large openair boards in the centre of Huddersfield and of Leeds and so on.

York Chess Club is looking to restart such a “casual” chess club in York, supported by Chess in Schools & Communities, at the York Explore Library.  (When York’s central library got revamped, it was renamed “York Explore Library”.)

The club is to meet on Sundays, starting on the 8th of January 2023, and is to run from 2.00 p.m. to 3.15 p.m., and so offers an entry point to chess for new players which is different from the more familiar weekday evening clubs, though the club is of course not limited to newcomers to chess.
