At the annual meeting of the Yorkshire County Chess Club in November 1887, at Bradford, it was to challenge both Scotland and Ireland to correspondence matches.
The match with Ireland soon got off the ground, and four games rapidly concluded, 3 in favour of Ireland, and 1 in favour of Yorkshire, the number of moves taken ranging from 11 to 21.

The games on boards 2 were abandoned. The players at board 9 were mentioned in the pairings, but not in the results [BCM 1889, p. 56].
