Wakefield v Bradford, Woodhouse Cup, 1885 |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Played on Saturday, 31st January 1885, at [the Bull Hotel?] Wakefield.
Wakefield had chosen to play over the minimum eight boards. Play began at 4.30 p.m. Play ceased at 8.45, there apparently being no break for tea, which had perhaps been taken before the start. Three games remained unfinished. These were adjudicated by the two clubs’ respective secretaries, Mr. W. Rea of Wakefield and Herr Hartwig Cassel of Bradford. As reported by the Sheffield & Rotherham Independent of 07/02/1885, the order of the results at each board where there are two different results (boards 3, 6 and 7) was not evident and so is not implied here. The adjudicated games were not indicated by the Independent.

The Leeds Mercury Weekly Supplement of 07/02/1885 also carried a report.
The identity of players would appear more specifically to be as in the following table, which includes, also, the players’ names as given by the Leeds Mercury:
