The purpose of this event seems primarily a chance for players to play 5 FIDE rated games crammed into one day, with prizes a minor consideration. The format was described by organiser Jonathan Arnott as follows(with slight refinements:

An experimental format, similar to the “Fast Classical” currently being trialled by FIDE – such time controls are already allowed for U1800 players.

An opportunity to play (up to) 5 FIDE rated games in a day, for those who have FIDE rating U1800 or no FIDE rating at all.

We’re using a 40 20 time control, and we’ll be running 5 rounds in the day – though we appreciate some players might want to take a half-point bye or two.

Games at: 10am, 12.15pm, 2.30pm, 4.45pm, 7pm

Prizes will be dependent on entry. Prizes/freebies for all. Free buffet. Cash prize for 1st place only (est. £100-£150 depending on entries).

Peter Stone has FIDE Rapidplay and Blitz ratings (of 1675 and 1791 respectively) but no standard rate FIDE rating, so qualified for participation despite an ECF standard-rate rating of 2015. Ian Barker presumably served as a “filler”. Ben Barton presumably entered requesting a ½-point bye in round 5, but presumably then didn’t actually attend the event.
