over 12 boards, 2 games per board (time permitting)

 

This match clearly showed that strength of the once-mighty Huddersfield Chess Club had significantly waned, while that of new Bradford Exchange (soon to be merged with the old Bradford club) was in the ascendant.  Since Bradford Exchange had won its last match with Leeds, at Leeds, it had a fair claim to be the strongest cub in Yorkshire.  The results of this match were reported by the Leeds Mercury of 26/04/1884 as follows:
