Played in the Lecture Hall of the Athenaeum, Manchester,

on Saturday, 17/06/1879,

over 8 boards, 2 games per board (time permitting).

 

This was the “return” match to the 1879 Leeds v Manchester Athenaeum match of 29/03/1879, when Leeds managed a 35% score.  In this return match, played away, they scored 33%, which is perhaps as much as could be expected.
