Change of Date for 2nd Cleethorpes Rapidplay

now a week later than originally planned: now 25th June 2023

The first Cleethorpes Rapidplay, held on 03/07/2022, proved popular with Yorkshire players.  The original date fixed for the 2nd event, in 2023, has had to be changed because, to quote organiser Nigel Birtwistle, “the National Armed Forces have made a last minute change to the date that they hold their annual three-day event in Cleethorpes and it has caused a clash with our Rapidplay tournament.  The prospect of over 200,000 people being in Cleethorpes at the same time as the Rapidplay plus numerous road closures for the carnival and various parades really left us with no choice but to move our event to a later date.

Cleethorpes is an “honorary” Yorkshire town in as much as it has a Doncaster postcode, and Doncaster is in Yorkshire.  (Also, there is a suitably inscribed Sheffield-made strip of stainless-steel marking where the Greenwich meridian crosses the coastal path southwards from the Leisure Centre, alongside the sand dunes.  This steel strip was donated as a sample of Sheffield stainless steel long ago, and it still as good as new.

The new date for the 2nd Cleethorpes Rapidplay is now a week later on SUNDAY 25TH JUNE.

Free Car parking permits for the venue at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre will be available to all competitors on the day.
