Woodhouse Cup
This was contested between six teams, each team playing each other twice. The main changes from the pre-war era were that teams now played each other twice, home and away, and York had entered the I. M. Brown Shield rather than the Woodhouse Cup.
I. M. Brown Shield
This was contested between twelve teams, four more than in the pre-war period, grouped in two regional sections, “West” and “East”, with a play-off between section winners, to determine the overall winner.
The traditional participants in the “East” section were Hull, York and Goole. These had been joined by Hull Young People’s Institute. To make the “West” section manageable, it was still felt desirable to move a team from the “West” to the “East”. Thus Leeds II was placed in the “East” section.
There were seven teams in the “West” section, each playing each other twice, home and away. In the event, Sheffield II withdrew part-way through the season. Since they had played less than half their scheduled matches, their results were discounted for calculation of points scored and final places.
There was no tie-break system based on games points of individual matches between tying teams, and Bradford II and Halifax had to play a play-off match to determine winner of West section, resulting as follows.
There were only three teams in the “East” section, each playing each other twice, home and away.
Bradford II met Hull II to determine the winner of the I. M. Brown Shield, resulting as follows:
