Played at the Exchange Café, Bradford,

on Saturday, 21/02/1885.

Harrogate Chess Club was formed in the 1884-85 season, presumably in 1884.  Prior to this match the Harrogate club had played two matches, one versus a Leeds organisation, won by Leeds, and one versus Ripon, won by Harrogate.

This, Harrogate’s third match, was against a team drawn from Bradford’s “B Class” players.  The result, as reported by the Sheffield & Rotherham Independent (Weekly Supplement) of 28/02/1885, was a 13½-8½, but no further detail was given.
