Robert Cyril Turnbull was a younger brother of Sydney Peverill Turnbull, under whose name details of the brothers’ immediate family can be found, and he was a nephew of William Peverill Turnbull under whose name further family background can be found.

 

Robert was recorded in censuses as living with parents and siblings up to and including 1891.  Robert is elusive in the 1901 census.

 

The 1911 census found unmarried 34-year-old Scarborough-born Robert Cyril Turnbull as a senior assistant medical officer in Essex.

 

The marriage of Robert C. Turnbull to Margaret Stratton was registered in the third quarter of 1912, at Pewsey, Wiltshire.

 

The married couple seem to have settled in Wiltshire, as at the time of his death he was resident at Orchard Cottage, Stert, Wiltshire, about 2 miles SE of Devizes.

 

Death

 

Robert Cyril Turnbull of Orchard Cottage, Stert, Wiltshire, died at age 63 on 18/10/1940.  His death was registered at Devizes.

 

He was buried in the churchyard at Manningford, in the area of Wiltshire between Stert and Pewsey.

 

Probate was granted to his widow, Margaret Turnbull.  He left £2,506 9s.

Robert Cyril Turnbull played for Scarborough in the match against Whitby on 22nd February 1893.
