Dr. Thomas Smith attended the first meeting of the original Yorkshire Chess Association.

Baines’s General & Commercial Directory of Leeds, 1834, appears not to mention Dr. Thomas Smith.

White’s Directory of Leeds & the Clothing District, 1842, listed Thomas Smith, physician, at 30 North Street, Leeds.

White’s Directory of Leeds & the Clothing Districts, 1847, no longer listed Thomas Smith, surgeon, but under “Additions and Alterations” it listed Mr. Wm. Westwood, 30 North Street, rather implying Dr. Thomas Smith had recently died or moved away from Leeds.

Thus Dr. Thomas Smith seems to have become active as a surgeon in Leeds at some time from 1834 to 1841, and left or died at some time from 1842 to 1847 but most probably in about 1846.
