Non-Chess Life
James Henry Peacock was born to Charles Peacock (1846, Potten, Beds.) and Ann Peacock (Sutton, Beds.), had at least the following children:
The family originated around the Bedfordshire/Cambridgeshire border, but by 1874 it had clearly relocated to Leeds, where all ut the first two children were born, and James will have remembered little of his place of birth.
The 1881 census found then family living at Mulbery Street, Hunslet, Leeds. Father Charles was a general Labourer, while James was a scholar.
The 1891 census found the family had moved to Ashley Street, Hunslet. James himself was now a general labourer.
In 1894, James married Hannah Mary Winterburn (born 1873, Hunslet), in Hunslet, and went on to have at least the following children:
The 1911 census found James was now a “skilled labourer”.
One suspects he further improved his economic status to the point where he could join Leeds Chess Club.
Chess
J H Peacock was to be found in the lower have of the Leeds Woodhouse Cup team at least from 1904 to 1912.

James Henry Peacock died in 1929, in Leeds.
