Joseph Henry Blackburne gave a simultaneous display over 16 boards at Leeds Chess Club on Tuesday 14/11/1882.  Blackburne won twelve games, lost to James Rayner and to Thomas Eddison, and drew with D. Fawcett and with the blind player, Henry Millard.  This was reported in the Leeds Mercury of Wednesday 15/11/1882.

Henry Millard’s game went as follows:

Blackburne Simul, Leeds, 14/11/1882

White: Henry Millard (Leeds) – blind, so playing sans voir,

Black: Joseph Henry Blackburne;

1. Nc3 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 exd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Bg5 Be7 6. e3 O-O 7. Bc4 Ne5 8. Qe2 c6 9. O-O d5 10. Bb3 Qc7 11. f4 Ng6 12. Nd1 h6 13. Bxf6 Bxf6 14. c3 Re8 15. Qd2 Bd7 16. Nf2 Rd8 17. Kh1 c5 18. [Chess Player’s Chronicle &c, 27/12/1882, p.618]

Although White had the better position, a draw was agreed, as Henry Millard had to leave, presumably to get home (which by then may have been in Ilkley rather than Leeds).
