1871: Visit of Rosenthal and Skipworth to Sheffield |

Rosenthal and Skipworth at Sheffield Athenaeum Chess Club, February 1871
During early 1871, Rosenthal was touring England. He was accompanied by the Rev. Arthur Bolland Skipworth.
On Thursday 02/02/1871, he visited Birmingham Chess Club. From there Rosenthal and Skipworth progressed to Sheffield, where they were entertained by the Sheffield Athenaeum Chess Club in the reading room of the Sheffield Athenaeum Club. Around eighty local chess-players attended.
The visitors were guests of George Octavius Cutler, whose home at the time was 286 Glossop Road, Sheffield.
The two made a second appearance at the Sheffield Athenaeum Chess Club before moving on to Darlington (26/02/1871), Newcastle-upon-Tyne (07/03/1871), Tynemouth (08/03/1871) and South Shields (09/03/1871).
Arrangements in Sheffield were made by the Sheffield Athenaeum Chess Club’s secretary, Thomas Brown, a partner in Innocent and Brown, architects.
