Red Lion Inn, Caistor |
|
The Red Lion Inn was situated on Plough Hill, where it reaches the Market Place. It became a listed building on 1st November 1966, though it’s now listed under the name of Red Lion Hotel. The description on the British Listed Buildings website ends “To rear, on first floor, large late C18 room with some contemporary fittings presumably former ballroom.” This room is presumably the room referred to by The Lincoln, Rutland, and Stamford Mercury as “the concert-room”.
In both 1851 and 1854 it was run by John Quickfall and his wife Mary. John Quickfall was also variously an auctioneer, presumably holding auctions in the large room of the Red Lion, and an excise officer, an obvious sideline for an innkeeper.
