Resurgence of OTB Congresses in Yorkshire

A number of congresses some of which have missed years during the Covid epidemic are re-emerging from covidation, and there is a new one.

Ilkley Chess Festival

This is the new one.  It is on 16th to 18th September 2022 is at King's Hall & Winter Garden, Station Road, Ilkley, LS29 8HB, which is almost bang opposite the railway station.  (Website)

Hull 4NCL International

This managed to go ahead last year despite Covid, and is back again on 14th to 16th October at the same venue as before, Canham Turner Conference Centre, University of Hull, Cottingham Road, Hull, HU6 7RX.  (ECF Caldendar)

Scarborough Congress

This too managed to go ahead last year, but there was a shadow of doubt cast over the 2022 evident due to the impending retirement of congress secretary Andrew Butterworth.  It turns out Huddersfield’s Nigel Hepworth was stepped into the breach.  Well done, Nigel!  So, congress-goers can still book their annual visit to Yorkshire’s premier seaside resort.  The dates are 28th to 30th October, at the usual Ocean Room of the Spa Complex.  (ECF Calendar)  New congress website under construction.

British Rapidplay

This has missed two years due to Covid, but returns on 26th to 27th November, at the new venue, Leeds Trinity University, Brownberrie Lane, in the Horsforth area of Leeds.  (Website)

Hull Rapidplay

This too ran last year, despite Covid.  Last year the on-line entry was not working, but Douglas Vleeshhouwer will, I am sure, have got that sorted by now!  The date is 8th January 2023, and the venue is Canham Turner, University of Hull, Cottingham Road, Hull, HU6 7RX.  (Website)

This too managed to re-emerge in 2022, and Jim Burnett is talking in terms of running 2023, though he wonders how long he can continue.  If all goes according to the usual formula for setting the date, it will be on 24th to 26th February 2023.  An offer of the donation of a junior prize has been received.  (Website)
