10/01/2020 Update on Yorkshire Grading Submissions for ECF January 2020 Grading List
Processing of data submitted for the ECF January 2020 Grading List is in progress. As a part of the move to monthly grading, to reduce pressure on “ECF Graders” the optional facility of having data extracted directly from the ECF League Management System (LMS) was introduced for this processing cycle.
For various reasons, six leagues in Yorkshire opted to continue the previous “manual” system whereby files pulled off LMS get checked by “ECF Graders” and submitted to the ECF by e-mail. Data for these six leagues were therefore duly processed the old way.
The other four leagues bravely opted into “automatic” data extraction – or thought they had! Automatic data extraction took place on 7th January. I obtained a processing report to check the four Yorkshire leagues opting for automatic extraction had been processed accordingly, and found one had not, due to omission of treasurer details. Therefore, I made a manual submission on behalf of that league.
Thus all leagues have had their data submitted to the ECF. The resultant result files, both “automatic” and “manual” then require feeding into the grading system. Named “graders” receive a feedback e-mail, which with any luck says there are no identified problems.
Only in the ensuing month will it become apparent which pre-existing players have had a duplicate grading reference created, possibly resulting in two grades for a single player, and which players have been incorrectly identified!
Over the last six months I have processed data for four congresses in Yorkshire. Three Yorkshire congress organisers have their own internal grading arrangements, and ideally they all would.
I have also processed data for the internal events of six clubs in the present grading cycle. One of these clubs had entered data into LMS and assumed ECF grading followed from this automatically, not realising they needed to opt in to automatic data extraction or else enlist an ECF Grader. I realised this club’s data had probably not been picked up in any way, and contacted the club, and subsequently did the necessary processing. I suspect there are other Yorkshire clubs out there who would like their internal events ECF-graded, but simply do not known how to go about it. (To contact me is probably the best bet.)
Below is a table of ECF-graded events in Yorkshire, showing the source of the data and who processed it (where known).
