Hull & East Riding A v Calderdale A

 

Hull & East Riding A would perhaps be the bookmaker s favourite to win the Woodhouse Cup this season, and they kept up the pressure with a win over Calderdale A on 17/02/2024.  Calderdale drew three of the top three boards, which is in itself a good result, but could not match Hull &ER on the lower board.  Calderdale could have won on board 2, but that did not come to pass.  Hull &ER s board 2, Joe Varley, has annotated his slightly rocky win.  You can play through the game on LiChess, where wrote it up, here (but Lichess uses a grey-on-grey colour scheme).  A version on this website can be found in black on white here:
