2020 ECF Under-18 On-Line County
Championship, 21/11/2020
Counties were invited to enter this event, but it obviously
needed somebody au fais with organising on-line junior chess, and after a
little discussion between relevant parties, Douglas Vleeshhouwer, who runs
the “Hull & Friends” teams in the on-line Junior 4NCL, became captain of
the Yorkshire team, with support from John Hipshon and other junior
organisers. There were 7 Swiss rounds played in the one day, but the
load was borne across a squad of 10 players. Yorkshire was initially
ranked 4th in strength, so the outcome was not a surprise. (Below are team results table, Yorkshire match
details, and player stats.)
After the event, Douglas sent the following message to the team:

Dear all,
Thank you for playing for Yorkshire in the ECF U18 County
Championship.
Well played everyone!
It was a pleasure being your captain.
We had some tough matches but we did very well to beat
Oxfordshire. Unfortunately, due our draw against Berkshire, and
Oxfordshire miraculously escaping a match against winners Warwickshire, we
ended up where we started: in fourth place.
Our top scorers were:
Mate Ther, with 4.5 points out of 5 games.
Connor Clarke, with 3.5 out of 5 games and
Max Parkhouse, with 3 out of 4.
