Results of the 2016-17 County Correspondence Chess Championships are now to hand. The entry into the competition of new “Counties” West Wales and East Wales helped deny Yorkshire repetition of the previous season’s success. Half a country might seem an unfair opposition to single counties, though the population of Wales is in fact less than that of Yorkshire, so that excuse won’t hold! Nevertheless, the results of Yorkshire’s four teams (well, the top three, at least), captained by Phill Beckett, were highly commendable.

Yorkshire A and B finished 3rd-4th equal and 5th-6th= out of 10 respectively in Division 1 (Ward Higgs), while Yorkshire C finished 2nd in Division 2 (Sinclair). Yorkshire D struggled somewhat, finishing bottom equal in Division 3 (Butler-Thomas); better luck next time.

Play in the 2017-18 Championships started on 21/10/2017.
