Richardson Cup |

The Richardson Cup was presented by J. Stanley Richardson for a knock-out competition which was specifically designed to provide minor clubs in the Weston Trophy competition the chance to play matches against major clubs in the Davy Trophy competition.
At the time it was presented, a photograph which was said to be of the Richardson Cup appeared in the Yorkshire Telegraph & Star. The actual cup is shorter in proportion to its width that the trophy in the photograph.
The Richardson cup is a small silver cup with plinth. The cup bears the sterling silver mark and the London assay marks for 1932. The titular inscription reads:
“RICHARDSON CHALLENGE CUP.”

The names of the winners in 1936 to 1949 were inscribed on the reverse of the cup. Names of subsequent winners were inscribed on a band round the plinth. This band was a later addition, as it bore the sterling silver mark, and the Sheffield assay marks for 1946. The cup itself bears no obvious maker’s mark, but the band on the plinth bears the maker’s mark “H A”.
