Originally the club championship trophy of the Sheffield Athenaeum Chess Club, the “Athenaeum Trophy”, as it is now known, serves as the trophy for the fourth division of the Sheffield & District Chess Association. (Click here for text relating to this trophy.)
The lid is missing in this photograph, and may have been lost. The stem has become bent in recent years.
