Sheffield Problem-Solving Ladder, 2020-21

A problem-solving ladder was organised by Brian Stephenson, to run with six monthly rounds from November 2020 through to April 2021.  In the event there were only three participants in round 1.  One of those three dropped after round 1, probably finding the problems too difficult, or abstruse.  Another party entered for round 2, but it was felt that only three participants really wasn't enough to justify the effort.  Despite the disappointing response from Sheffield (in part no doubt due to the small number of S&DCA Newsletter readers and website visitors) a regular solving ladder seemed a good idea, but it would need to take in a greater geographical area.

Accordingly, it was announced that Brian planned to invite all-comers and hoped to start a new problem ladder in February 2021, with a new round 1.  "Of course, I will run this on my own website and I hope you three will enter that."

Scores after the second and, as it turned out, final round were as follows:

Congratulations to Geoff Brown who scored full marks on all 12 problems in the November and December sets.

(For those who do not know, Brian maintains, and progressively adds to, a database of chess problems, and used to be involved in running the World Problem Solving Championships.)
