Played at Grimsby, on 07/04(?)/1877, over 7 boards, 2 games per board.
What appears to the May issue of The Chess Player’s Chronicle, 1877, reported on page 116: “A friendly match took place at Grimsby on the 7th ult. between 7 members of the Grimsby and District Club and an equal number of the Hull Chess Club. There was a very close contest, and the home players, who had the advantage of the Rev. A. B. Skipworth's assistance, gained the victory by one game. We append the score:”
The order of games on each board is not evident from the method of reporting the results, but it was noted that there was only one draw, that being between Guilliatt and Penny.
