About this Website

This website was launched in September 2017, originally having been intended to

>  make available, on line, Year Book content not held on line elsewhere,

    with some additional related material,

(for which click on the appropriate link in the content table on the left),

>  show mid‑season corrections and changes to club‑related information,

to which purposes have been since added

>  showing mid-season changes and additions to the Event Calendar,

>  showing Event Results/Reports not covered by other sites, (see Home page) and

>  making generally available such Notices as may be contributed (see Home page).

The last three items were added in response to suggestions, ideas and wishes expressed by Yorkshire chess organisers from around the county.  Making a success of these added objectives inevitably depends on “proactive” journalistic endeavour on my part (something which can wane over time), but openness to external contributions is part of the underlying raison d’etre.

This is not an “official YCA website” as that would rather imply those administering it were hired and fired by the YCA, and that the YCA had direct control over the content.  It should perhaps be thought of as my personal overview of Yorkshire Chess News.

Nevertheless, the aim is to serve Yorkshire chess in the same way, complementing or supplementing the work done by

http://yorkshirechess.org/ and www.chessnuts.org.uk/,

so that the three, between them, have most angles covered, though there are still gaps (e.g. minutes of meetings).

Steve Mann,
