22/02/2021 Autobiographical Contribution by David Mills
Following on from brewing beer, wine and cider, last year, while improving cooking skills and cultivating strawberries, rhubarb and sweetcorn, David Mills has in recent weeks turned his hand to writing articles regarding his early chess experiences, 50 years ago, in the late 1960s and early 1970s, with the intention of offing them for publication to anyone who might be interested.
So it was that part one arrived yesterday. David says, “It contains a significant amount about my early life but I believe that information puts subsequent events (and other articles) into perspective.” David also mentions that his comments in the two games included reflect the best of his ability, and that he does not know how to obtain computer analysis of games. So, he says, “If anyone can offer very simple written instructions on this matter, I would be delighted to receive them. Things available to me include Fritz 9, ChessBase8 and access to 365Chess.com.”
In the covering note, David says, “NB. Please feel free to check my notes – no, please definitely check my notes in case of embarrassing errors!” Well, I have added a note of my own regarding the soundness of his piece sacrifice in one game.
David is of course, in normal times, Hull & DCA A and B team captain in the Yorkshire league, and Yorkshire U-140 and U-120 team captain, as well as acting U-100 captain.
