Hull & DCA Summer-Autumn Events

 

Hull & District Chess Association has announced a number of summer and autumn events taking place in Hull, some of which might be of interest to people from outside Hull & District:

 

Grandmaster@thelocal

Saturday July 6th

An afternoon of outdoor chess with GM Simon Williams. 16.00-19.00.  Furley and Co, Hull (adjacent to Princes Quay (multi-storey car park).  No charge and there first 35 pints of Grandmaster Ale are free!!  For more details contact Jo Hutchinson (johutchinson69@gmail.com).  No booking required but let us know if you are coming so we know how many tables and boards to put out!

Hull Grandmaster Challenge

Sunday July 7th

A simultaneous exhibition with Grandmaster Simon Williams.  13.00-17.00. Edwardian suite, Royal Hotel, Hull. £15 adults (£10 juniors) – bookable at hullchesss.com.

Hull Team Lightning

Tuesday July 9th

19.00-22.15, Edwardian suite, Royal Hotel, Hull.  Teams of 4 compete for both the George Willoughby and Peter Withill (team handicap) trophies.  Move on a 10-second buzzer.  Free entry.

Hull Junior Summer School

Wednesday July 31sth – Friday August 2nd

Hymers School.  Three groups (from beginners upwards) led by Dan Staples, Sean Marsh and Noel Stewart. Free.  Places for up to 50 juniors (age 7 and up).

Grandmaster Norm event

October 30th – November 3rd

Royal Hull Hotel.  A field of three (non-English) GM’s take on 7 English IM’s in an event which coincides with a 4NCL/HDCA congress (the last 4 GM Norm rounds played in the same room as the congress).  Average player grade 240+ ECF.  Opportunities to spectate.

Hull 4NCL Congress

November 1st – 3rd

Royal Hotel, Hull.  3 sections (Open and Major FIDE rated), £3,000 prize money. Social events (pub walk and ‘meet the masters’ reception).  20 free junior places; three days of (free) junior coaching with Charlie Storey including looking at the GM norm games live.  Special cheap accommodation rates and free parking for those staying.  Booking through the 4NCL web site www.4ncl.co.uk/fide/4nclfideform_hull_2019.htm.
