British Championships 2023, Day 7
Day 7:

Day 7 saw
rounds 2 and 3 of the British Junior Championships at Under-16,
Under-14, Under-12, Under-10 and Under-8 levels.

round-5 results in the 9-round British Championship proper were as in
the rolling result table below.
Andrew Ledger was
paired against Yorkshireman-by-birth Chris Beaumont who had dispatched Eric
Gardiner in the previous round. The game lasted only 20 moves
Eric Gardiner and
Peter Shaw were paired against each other, with the latter reaching a R+Ps
ending a pawn up and eventually grinding out a win.
Bernard Chan has
Black against Virgil Szekely who had played Peter Shaw in the previous
round. The former was pawns up in an ending which reduced to K+N+Ps
which was not quite enough to win, despite some enterprising knight
manoeuvres at the end.
