Northern Gigafinal 2023

Regional “Gigafinals” are the penultimate stage in the UK Chess Challenge individual rapidplay championships for individuals under 18 (as at 31/08/2023), with U-18, U-14, U-12, U-10 and U-8 age brackets, with separate Girls’ and Boys’ championship titles at stake in each age group.  In some age groups girls and boys play in a single group while other age groups have separate girls’ and boys’ events.

This year’s Northern Gigafinal was held at Wright Robinson College, Abbey Hey Lane, Gorton, Manchester, M18 8RL.  Under-10 and younger age groups played on Saturday 1st July and the older groups on Sunday 2nd.

Yorkshire players won both the girls’ and the boys’ Under-10 sections, with Leeds, Hull and York showing up as probably the strongest areas in Yorkshire for promoting junior chess.

Full results can be seen on the NCCU website.  Highest-placed Yorkshire players in each section appear to be as follows.
