4NCL Rounds 7 & 8, Second Leg

Rounds 7 & 8 in divisions 3E and 4 were played on the weekend 25th & 26th of March 2023 at the Mercure Daventry Court Hotel and Spa.  The only Yorkshire-based team in action was Hull & East Riding Tigers, playing in Division 3E.

H&ERT’s round-7 opponents were MK Phoenix 1, whose name might seem unrevealing as to their geographical affiliation (if any) etc.  However, a little research reveals that “MK” stands for Milton Keynes, and judging by the players’ ages, “Phoenix” suggests players from the past, arising from their metaphorical ashes like the Phoenix or Greek mythology which arose anew from the ashes of its previous incarnation.  (Bottom three boards averaged 75 years of age, and the bottom 5 were aged just over 60 on average.)

Crowthorne, whose name was borne by H&RT’s round-8 opponents, is a village in Berkshire, and perhaps the home of the captain, Ken Coates who one suspects of being the former early-1970s Leeds University player of that name.
