Yorkshire v Greater Manchester, Open Section County Match

played 19/02/2023

The match Yorkshire v Greater Manchester in the NCCU Open section was played on Sunday 19th February at the Holmfirth, clashing with a Yorkshire league weekend, resulting in Greater Manchester’s second win in the NCCU county competitions.  Northumberland has already beaten Greater Manchester, and the final result hinges on the Northumberland v Yorkshire match scheduled for 5th March, also clashing with a Yorkshire league weekend!

The Open league table can be seen on the NCCU website here.  From this it is evident that Yorkshire needs to beat Northumberland by a margin of 8½-3½ or better on the 5th of March to win the Open section.  To finish at least second, Yorkshire will need to beat Northumberland by a margin of 7½-4½ or better.  (The top two qualify for the ECF national competitions.)  So, a number of Yorkshire stops will need to be pulled out.  Otherwise, 2023 will be the first year for a very long time that Yorkshire has not qualified for the ECF Open section.
